By gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD, acid reflux) contents from the stomach is often pushed up into the esophagus and sometimes all the way into the mouth. The content can sometimes be sucked up into the throat and gives the windpipe.
Since there is a high concentration of acid (HCl) and digestive enzymes in the stomach content, it will irritate or injure the esophagus, mouth or throat. There is an acute burning pain and inflammation, a chronic and eventually structural damage in these organs.
THE MECHANISMS OF DISEASE
Several mechanisms can cause reflux and cause heartburn, either alone or in combination:
-The sphincter (a circular muscle layer), which normally closes the entrance from the esophagus into the stomach may be too lax, or it may not be of normal shape, so that stomach contents can cause leaks upwards.
GERD-hiatal hernia. With this condition, the upper part of the stomach was up through the passage in the diaphragm into the chest down cavity.
-The digestion of food in the ventricle is too slow, too late so that the ventricles empty and eventually over-filled.
-The chamber of the heart can cause a lot of contract or spasm, as if you up.
throws
-SITES The muscle between the stomach ventricle and duodenum (upper part of the small intestine) can constrict tightly or too strong, so that the contents fills in the chamber and makes a positive pressure here.
-Any situation that increases the pressure in the abdominal cavity may contribute GERD.
-The heartburn and other symptoms of GERD can be a high production of salty-acid assigned (HCl) in the ventricle.
-Even people with normal gastrointestinal function appears to have some degree of reflux. In many sufferers of GERD increased production of acid seems to be the only component of disease.
